Recently we have succeeded in mimicking the most brilliant and striking colors in nature by assembly of cellulose nanocrystals to form a structural color material. We figured out chirality and repulsion interactions among cellulose nanocrystals led to the formation of a cholesteric liquid crystal phase in a solidified film. Currently we are looking for a more practical application in color cosmetics. Hakyeong is doing this fancy research. We look forward to more colorful results in near future. She will surely do it!!!
